Ok…. So I’ve been wrestling with the relationship between biomass and corn grain yield. It just doesn’t sit right with me that there would be such a big correlation. Especially since most of the research showing that correlation comes from overseas with what I would like to assume are different (inferior) varieties. As such, there has to be some sort of Goldilocks principle or at least a point of diminishing returns right? And then it hit me… stalk diameter theoretically contributes for weight to biomass than LAI right? Turns out I think I’m right about that. So why on earth don’t we pay more attention to stalk diameter at critical points???
