I understand that logistics can play a role in every decision. But think of how few of lbs of N are actually needed until V8 in the corns life (especially behind soybeans). Feeding the plant when it needs it, significantly plays a role in total amount of Nitrogen needed to raise a crop. Create a healthy root system, account for what the weather and mineralization can provide with a simple 0-12 inch soil test and apply when needed. This alone should make a significant improvement on NUE as well as saving some of your input dollars.
