A nitrogen trial on farm this year where we split a 35 ac field (north half vs south half) where we applied 190 units of actual N on the north half and 160 units of actual N on the south half with anhydrous pre-planting. In my area 80% of the acres get all of their N up front. There was no yield difference between the two halves. Actually if you look at smaller zones, the 160 did about 6 bu better. Nitrogen is extremely complex and this single trial isn’t really THAT informative, but shows is how we have a lot of information to take in in order to understand N and how we use it. Definitely a year bias on something like this in my opinion. What do you all do to make more informed N decisions on your farms?
