The questions keep coming in on how to manage next years fertilizer prices. One thing to keep in mind. Every year is different when it comes to nitrogen needs. We had growers that only needed 150 lbs of N this year due to great mineralization in a 250 bu yield environment. Starting with a great base of fert information (from zones preferably) and adding in a soil biology rank goes along ways. But adding in season sampling this year has paid huge dividends in capturing what was actually happening. We can predict better then before with our version of a soil sample but nothing can out do knowing the best locations to sample from and actually sampling in the growing crop to adjust for what Mother Nature has given us.
